To all my friends in Japan,
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all for the ongoing tragedy you are experiencing from the earthquake and Tsunami.
Your courage has inspired me and I’m sure the rest of the world in the face of such great adversity. This courage that you display does not surprise me. I’ve had the pleasure and the honor of playing my music in Japan many times, about 30 or more trips. Every time I’ve been in your country the people have been kind, thoughtful, sensitive, hard working and very courageous. I know you will get through these very hard challenges that are in front of you. Your strength is always an inspiration to me, to my friends in the United States and to the rest of the world.

地震と津波によって起こっている悲劇に対して、深い同情の念を表します。
皆さんの勇気は、私はもちろん、きっと同じ逆境に立たされている世界の他の地域を奮い立たせてくれています。皆さんが示している、この勇気は、私にとって 驚くべきことではありません。光栄にも私はこれまで30回（いやそれ以上）も日本で演奏する機会がありましたが、毎回みなさんの優しく、思慮深く、感受性 豊かで、働き者で、たいへん勇敢な姿を目にしてきましたから。目の前に立ちはだかっているとても困難な状況を皆さんが乗り越えることを信じています。皆さ んの強さは、常に私や私のアメリカの友人、そして世界の他の地域の人々のインスピレーションになっています。
