STATEMENT
I am continuously creating works mainly on buildings such as office buildings, about individual elements such as the volume of the building itself, and about the time in which people involved in the fluidity necessary to hold the building are “absent.”
ABOUT MUSIC AND ART
Before beginning to create a “work,” I am often aware of my listening to music that conjures an image in my mind of a certain time of day, and even if it is not clearly stated in the song itself I can decide within myself what time of day would be good to listen to it. I think this feeling has a profound influence on the type of creative activity I am currently engaged in. For example, I would listen to Radiohead’s Kid A between 4:00 and 5:30 in the morning, or to Mac DeMarco’s Salad Days at around 11:00 am on my day off. When I want to get a particular image (that roughly matches a particular narrow area), if I am to predict trends in people’s lives and choose time settings with a fine feeling of openness, I often say to myself “I want to perform an action in the time that I associate with this piece of music.”
