STATEMENT
Taking light and space as my theme, by constructing layers in the painting using a highly transparent medium, I tried to create a painting with fluidity due to its transmission effect. By including light in the screen, the shape and color of the layers that are layered over and over are changed in minute amounts, depending on the viewing distance and the viewpoint position. Just as the shape and color of a glacier continuously change, I rethink the act of constantly displaying and viewing the view experience that comes with fluidity.
ABOUT MUSIC AND ART
For long time I’ve often listened to the music of the Japanese band Envy. The hard sound is the basis, but the spectrum between the strength and weakness of a melody is broad, and within one song there is scope for change. The still and calm expressions in particular have a charm to them, and I feel deeply attracted to expressions that resemble the movements of an unborn child in the depths of silence. When my ears have adjusted to silence, just then, from beyond the silence or from somewhere far away, a sound starts to be faintly heard. Surrounding spatial movements and scenery of which I had not been aware until that point start to well up as “imagination.” I can recognize that my pictures, which attempt to convey in a direct manner the relationship between light and space that is distorted by shadow and shape when it is looked at and in which light is enveloped by transparency, are heavily influenced by the music that gives one a feeling of the wideness of this space.
